Baby sleep changes. A short nap, an unusual night or a missed timer can feel important in the moment, but one entry rarely tells the whole story. A baby sleep tracker helps by keeping the sequence and duration of sleep across several days, so you do not have to rely on the most recent difficult night.
Start and stop, then correct when life happens
Mommy includes timers for day and night sleep. Start a timer when sleep begins and stop it when your baby wakes. If you started late or forgot to stop, edit the time afterward. The diary should reflect the best information you have, not punish an imperfect tap.
When a timer is active, compatible Apple devices can keep the status close through Live Activities and other system surfaces.
Look at several days, not one nap
Daily and weekly views can make repeated patterns easier to notice: total sleep, the balance of day and night sleep, nap count and awake intervals. These are observations from the entries you record. They are not a medical assessment and they do not guarantee what will happen next.
Keep sleep beside the rest of the day
Sleep does not happen in isolation. Mommy keeps feeding, pumping, diapers, temperature, medicine and other activities in the same diary. That context can help you describe the day more accurately to your partner or clinician.
Separate the record from safe-sleep guidance
A tracking app records when sleep happened; it does not determine whether a sleep environment is safe. For current safe-sleep recommendations, follow your local health authority and your pediatrician. The American Academy of Pediatrics explains that infants should be placed on their back on a firm, flat sleep surface without loose bedding. Read the current AAP safe-sleep guidance.
If your baby has breathing difficulty, is unusually hard to wake, seems unwell or you have another urgent concern, seek professional medical care. A timer or chart cannot evaluate those symptoms.
Share the same night with the care team
With Shared Access, invited caregivers can see and add sleep entries in the same iCloud diary. That makes morning handoffs clearer: the next person can see when sleep started, how long it lasted and what else happened.
